Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies the response under its own systems. Culpeper County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own servers.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer it. The contents remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty. We do not otherwise provide the message to an outside person or organization.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical information whenever a visitor loads a page, including:
- The date and time of each page request
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Your browser type and version
- The operating system and kind of device used
- Pages viewed and the amount of time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies help measure how visitors move through the website, such as which Culpeper County record pages receive the most visits and where a visit ends. Analytics providers combine that traffic information into reports. You may block cookies through your browser controls, although doing so can change how some website features work.

Culpeper County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its published material describes how to reach official custodians, including the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office, the Culpeper County courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-record profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes available here. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention, processing, and disclosure practices. Review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office, Virginia court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow one of those links, the destination's privacy terms apply. Check its policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may observe activity across multiple websites to select targeted advertising. Their systems, not ours, conduct that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be disclosed only to the following types of recipients:
- Analytics providers that measure use and technical performance
- Outside search services that process a query you submit

- Government or law-enforcement authorities when valid legal process compels disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used security measures are applied to information in our control. No internet-connected service can guarantee complete protection, however. We work to safeguard visitor data but cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under eighteen. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with a visitor's residence and the law that applies. The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Va. Code § 59.1-575 et seq., may provide qualifying Virginia residents with rights concerning certain personal data and processing. The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to qualifying records held by Virginia public bodies, not private visitor data held here. Va. Code § 19.2-389 separately limits dissemination from the Virginia Central Criminal Records Exchange. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal information maintained about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek deletion of personal information where the law permits
- Decline certain forms of processing when an applicable law provides that choice
